Issue creating directories on OS X

When I attempt to create a new project on OS X 10.5.8 I get "Failed to create directory <location>".  Has anyone seen this before?  I closed and reopened IDEA, rebooted the machine and so far nothing has had any effect.  I was able to test that I can create a directory with another application.

I played around a little more.  I can create a directory from the file chooser but I get the error when I use the Project Creation Wizard.  I tried uninstalling IDEA and reinstalling with no luck.  Do any of the Jetbrains Developers check the Forums?
