installation nit
every time i install an EAP (or any other build) i have to edit the LAX file to get rid of console output and change the java stack size. i would love it if the installer would recognize those edits and carry them into the new install. (and yes, i select the install option to import settings, but it doesn't do lax file settings.) if i'm the only one, i don't want to waste jetbrains' time on it - i'll live with the annoyance. but if others have the same annoyance, as i suspect they might, i'll open a bug.

Your suspicions are correct! Please open a bug/feature request for this one.
This and the plugins not being copied over are the things one has to do
manually after installing a new EAP build.
I guess they haven't spent any time on them since the problem is specific to
repeated eap upgrades, one wouldn't have this burden once the final release
is published.
But I'd definitely like to have the installer take care of this, now that we
upgrade almost daily. Not that I complain, or anything. :)

P.S. On the other hand, if one upgrades using the archives and not the
installer these steps are not needed anymore. So I guess it's not really
worth their time.

the problem isn't actually restricted to repeated EAP builds - upgrading released versions runs into the same problem. although copying plugins in that case should probably be optional, since the chance that they're compatible isn't 100%.
installing the archive version requires copying into the same directory. i have a different directory for each install. and i put the console output into that directory, so copying the directory won't solve the problem elegantly.
