opening a file with IDEA

for windows - i noticed that i cannot open a file by associating its extension with IDEA or cannot open it by specifying IDEA as the program. Is it possible or not? Everytime idea runs it open nothing or the last project. it seems that it is only designed to open with only its project files. pl., confirm...

It is not possible to open a file in IDEA without having a project open.

the OpenInIDEA plugin might help you. See http://www.intellij.net/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=271001

(However, you will have to have a running instance of IDEA with at least one project open in order to open a file in IDEA).
