Summary: what I've seen so far looks like somebody, who is unexperienced

in

GUI design, has tried different things. From my point of view, the look-
and-feel of this build looks less professional than other builds before.

I second your opinion here. Personally it reminded me of the Kunststoff
look & feel (http://www.incors.org). To me this also looks less
'professional' than the current look & feel in idea 3.04

Agreed, I like new panel buttons but I dislike big menu items and
resemblance to Kunststoff.

Also, the menu items no longer line up, if they have a sub-menu. It's the little things...

Even those without a sub-menu (see the Build menu).

Eugene, do you know the excellent book "GUI Bloopers" by Jeff Johnson, ISBN
1558605827 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1558605827)? The author
sheds some light on what has proven to be good and bad in GUI design. I
fully recommend each developer who needs to develop GUIs to read it or any
comparable book.

BTW, it is "normal" to make mistakes in GUI design, because developers
typically do not have experience with the problems (and their solutions)
that might occur.
