How to use EAP
I purchased the IDE a couple of weeks ago. I noticed that under the EAP Ariadna there are frequent builds. Are these drop in replacements for the December 3.0.1 release?
If yes, should I install each new version (as it comes out) in it's own directory and it will point to the appropriate Intellij directories to pick up my configuraiton and projects? Are there any caveats I need to be aware of? Do newer version change the underlying configuration files so that I can not return to a previous version if I have a problem? Just trying to figure out wha the EAP version are now that it has been officially released...
Or should I only install a new version if I hit a bug that is fixed in a newer version.
Just trying to get a handle on how bug fixes are being delivered.
Thanks in advance,
John

configuraiton and projects?
There is an option to import the configuration from previous versions when
you install.
Any manually installed plugins will need to be reinstalled.
This are bugfix releases (pre 3.0.x versions) and (in theory :) dont't
break anything.
newer version.
Some eap releases also contain speed improvements. Check the release notes
and decide.
Note that when the new eap for the next version of idea starts, eap releases
will be alpha and anything may happen.

You can unzip the files right into your old installation directory. Settings
and project files remain intact.
I never had any problems with that.
If you're using bin/idea.bat to launch idea, you should save the old batch
file and restore it later.

hm, difficult question ...
I never tried this, but if you do experience problems you can still edit the
config files with a text editor
