Mmm .. well that was a bit of a surprise.

Sun has hired the two chaps responsible for JRuby, so that they can work on it full time.

Could JRuby support be implemented as a plug-in or would it require core code modification?

We're already working on a plugin to add Ruby support to IntelliJ IDEA.

Excellent news!

If Ruby has access to the wealth of third party apis available to Java, then I'll definitely give it another look.
