click on variable in debugger Variables window gives blank box

I think this must be in expectation that the developer will type in some data which will then replace whatever is currently in the variable.

OK, that is good, but it would be even better if the 'default contents' (currently blank) would be the current value of the variable.

This way the developer can see what is in the variable. Right now, the blank box obscures the value.

To further illustrate the point, see the attached screencapture fragment.

The blank box obscures what is underneath.

The blank box even obscures the name of the variable..

Hello Bob,

How did you managed to get this blank box? I cannot reproduce this problem on my Ubuntu machine.

Oleg

It just appeared during a debug session. But it fortunately disappeared now. I can't duplicate it either on my Fedora 14 box.

I saw it also in the Project view. Click on a file name and the blank box obscured the name.

Gone now though. I will watch for it. A little like catching a lightning bug in a bottle..

OK, it came back. I had to reboot my box (upgrades..) and only restarted my RubyMine sessions and Firefox sessions (restore..).

I started up a debug session and then noticed that the blank box was back.

I managed to capture while also selecting the blank box - under those conditions, it shows some garbage characters 'underneath'. See attached screen fragment.

Perhaps you can figure out what else I can do to stimulate the problem.

I will quit and restart RubyMines now to see if it is still there.

OK, I think it is related to a buffer overflow.

When I click on a text variable which is big (43174 bytes of xml text), this triggers the blank box problem on that variable and all subsequent variables I click on.
