Martin - both 0.17 and 0.18 have problems connecting to JBoss on startup. 0.18 actually pops up several NPE and other internal error dialogs (the ones that state the plugin is bad and that IDEA should be restarted).
Can you please send me your idea.log and server.log from JBoss? The plugin is working well here, so there has to be a problem specific to your environment.
