'alt' key not opening menu items in Ubuntu 15.04

I just upgraded my Ubuntu desktop install from 14.10 to 15.04 which was recently released and now the 'alt' key no longer allows menu headings to be opened in my install of IntelliJ IDEA.

This is *only* happening for IntelliJ and not for e.g. Firefox, terminals or file browsers.

I am using 14.1.2.

To illustrate what's happening, this is a screenshot of the menu bar whilst holding down 'alt', the first character of the menu items is not underlined indicating that the corresponding key can be pressed to open that menu:

Here it is working as expected in Firefox:

This has the effect of e.g. alt-r x v not selecting the 'extract variable' refactoring option.

Does anyone have any ideas of what may be causing this?

Yep, alt-f10 does still work as suggested in that ticket.

Another thing I noticed was that I now get "Picked up JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS: -javaagent:/usr/share/java/jayatanaag.jar" whenever I run Java code, I'm pretty sure that's new (sorry, I only swapped to running Ubuntu on my desktop 2 weeks ago). I removed that from my JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS and whilst menu items now always appear on the application's title bar instead of the "global" header the alt key combinations work again. Hooray!

Apparently jayatanaag is now installed by default in 15.04 (http://www.webupd8.org/2015/01/ubuntu-1504-might-get-global-menu-and.html).

Thanks for the pointer.
