Tomcat: Deploy Artifact From Separate Project

I have 2 separate projects open and I want to test them both at the same time.
At the moment my only options are:

  1. Create a super project that contains both
  2. Add an existing module from the other project and recreate the artifact
  3. Build with ANT and deploy with the Tomcat manager

An error is thrown if you try to run Tomcat from both projects as the port is already in use.
Couldn't IDEA detect this and offer to deply to the running instance?

I think this feature will solve the problem: http://youtrack.jetbrains.net/issue/IDEA-47963.

I launch the first one like normal, then the second is launched as a remote debug and attaches to the port.

Maybe the solution is when the port is already found to be open, offer to switch to remote and connect to the running server that way.

How do you deploy your application from the second project though?
Remote configurations don't allow deployment.
