Sad: IDEA doesn't work on a Xgl desktop

I know this is probably Swing's fault, but I'm sad nonetheless. sigh

Solution: DONT USE XGL IF IT DOESNT WORK WITH YOUR TOOLS.

Whats more important to do? Using IDEA over Eclipse, or a funky
resource intensive pretty desktop>

If he's after a funky, resource intensive and especially after a pretty
desktop he's on the wrong platform anyway...

Sorry, couldn't resist ;)

It's not IntelliJ's problem, it's compiz developers problem. There are two solutions (besides recommendation not to use xgl at all :)):
1. Run IDEA in Xnest
2. http://compiz.net/viewtopic.php?id=282 - you'll need to wait until IDEA is fully loaded before running "compiz --replace gconf"

What I don't understand it's why you blame compiz developers? I have been using others swing applications and they work ok. What's the real problem. I'm not saying compiz it's esenctial for developing. But they really have lot's of cooll things for linux like mac stuff. This make the gnome desktop even cooler. If you know the exact problem may be we can talk with compiz people to fix it.
Thanks a lot

As far as i know, any swing application has problem with compiz. It's either "blank window" issue or "resizing" issue. Also, if you run some other window manager with XGL (metacity for instance) IDEA works just fine.
That's why i think it's compiz developers problem.
