Perforce sync?

When I have set up my project to use Perforce I'm able to perform most
operations, edit, submit, browse changes etc. But I can't se how I'm
supposed to do when I want to sync with the repository.
I can of course do this using external tools.

This makes me wonder if it wouldn't be better for each VCS plugin to
define it's own menu actions and terminology, to avoid this sort of
confusion.

There must be a way to design the API for general VCS integration with
the IDE while retaining the specific flavour and/or special operations
of the chosen VCS.
