Which variables you can use, depends on a subsystem which provides the template.
You cannot define your own variables for existing templates, but rather use only those variables that this particular kind of templates understands.
Alternatively you can provide a plugin that registeres a new kind of templates that understand some set of variables
or even allow the user to configure these variables.
