Why Local History window was redesigned?

I use only PHPStorm EAPs (version is 96.1224 at the moment), but I guess this is the right place for the question:
why the "Local History | Show History" window was changed in IDEA X?
I feel older version is nicer for me (where the list of history entries was at the bottom, not on the left), although I haven't used new design very much.
