But it will be an intersting experience to have to do without them for a day or two (hopefully just one) - what if I discover that I can manage without them? Then I will have reclaimed a little screen space for my code :)
For me the only file with line numbers is one that was pulled from CVS and merged with the local copy. Other than that, they are all missing line numbers.

I'm not sure but I think that the files I see with line numbers are those that have been modified autmatically by IDEA through my refactoring activities.
