You know, these hunger strikes would be a lot more effective if people actually dropped dead from them. As it stands, all that seems to happen is a few (usually overweight anyway) people become mildly hungry. Not exactly something that inspires a strong sense of urgency!

It's the old carrot and stick approach. So far we have only been using the stick (hunger strikes, cutting off coffee supply, ...). Maybe it is time for a carrot (aka barrel of beer).
