I'm currently running IDEA 8.1.3 on Mac OS X 10.5.7 with (I believe) the following VM:
java version "1.5.0_19"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_19-b02-304)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_19-137, mixed mode, sharing)
I'm experiencing problems with menus that were also happening under 8.1.2. Note that these problems started after I installed the recent Apple Java update. In a nutshell, what happens is that the menus simply become unresponsive. The menus are enabled, and I can click on them, but nothing happens. If an equivalent right click menu option exists or a tool bar button, those work fine. One interesting oddity is the Subversion submenu under Version Control. Right now, if I click on Version Control, the Subversion submenu shows up enabled and in black. If I move my mouse down overtop of the menu to click on it and view its submenus, the menu immediately becomes disabled. If I right click on a file, the Subversion context menu works fine. This problem does not happen immediately after I start using IDEA. I'm not at all sure what triggers it, but if I quit and restart IDEA, the problem goes away for a bit. Has anyone else experienced this and does anyone have suggestions for a workaround? I was previously told (by Jetbrains support folks) not use Java 1.6 with IDEA on the Mac, but I'm going to give that a try to see if it makes things any better.
