A question about local CVS

Is that what happens or is that a false impression that I have and the
"dead" project local VCS data will be deleted after 3 days?

When local VCS was set per project, I think the dead project history was
kept there until you opened the project. At that time the older history
was purged and only the entries newer than 3 days were kept (so,
basically, after a week of absence you'd have no history, but only after
you loaded the project and IDEA did the synchronization).

Now that they moved the VCS setting to IDE level (and yes, I find that
annoying) I guess they might be able to control the history for all the
projects, whether they are active or not. So they could
purge the expired history for the "dead" projects even when they are not
loaded for weeks.

I don't know if they do it this way, though. We'll have to wait for an
answer from JetBrains to shed some light on this, I guess.

You're right, at the moment local history can be pruned (by IDEA) only for
working project, in other words if the project was not opened (from some
moment) its history (for the moment) will stay in local vcs
