Jetbrains selling email addresses?
I doubt it but I setup an email to use just for this forum and now I'm getting spam from MedScape at that email address.
Did anyone else get this email? I would bet that someone is grabbing email addresses of the forum.

Just go to Google and do a search for your name (or mine, ...) and
you'll find IntelliJ forum pages, i.e. your profile and your postings. I
suppose those spammers just scan forum pages and discover your address
the same way Google bot does. :)

If that is true, I suppose I'd be a little bit annoyed by it as I trusted IntelliJ not to let that sort of thing happen.
I doubt very much that they'd sell addresses because of all the bad PR they'd get and they seem like decent human beings.
And no, I didn't get the mail. I'm guessing that's because my email address is "hidden" on my profile.
How should IntelliJ/JetBrains prevent this from happening? If people decide to show their email addresses on a public forum, they should be aware that spammers can read (and use) their email address. Just like all the other reader of the forum can.
BTW, there is an option in the settings that prevents the email address from being displayed.

spammers usually scan news groups for e-mail addresses.

I might be wrong, but I thought you could stop the google bot and other bots when you configured your web-site.
But as you say, you can't stop people scanning public news groups.

You can ask them not to index parts of a site but you can't force them

What about hiding the email addresses?
