Hi,
Apart from access to Jabber, do we need to open any ports in firewalls
etc, so that remote workers can take full advantage of the IDE Talk
features like the local network users can?

That would be totally dependent on your network setup. If there is a firewall between your users and your chat server then I would venture to say that you will need to open ports.
