The Language API will provide all the tools needed to write a Ruby plugin
with built in refactoring, smart code navigation, etc. This is coming in
IDEA 5.0.

Please, please work on a Ruby IDE.

Thanks,
Obie :)

I don't know... If a ruby guru coded a port of IDEA in ruby it would take him 4 or 5 days and 5-600 lines of code: why would he want to write an idea plugin that would need many months of unsuccesful coding and no closures included?

I don't know whether you're joking, but anyway, the plugin could certainly
be written in JRuby.

I think it was intended to be sarcastic since Ruby coders tend to rip on Java relentlessly and say how they can do the same thing so much faster with much less code.

The Ruby guys deserve the treatment, imho. :)

Perhaps it matters that much to them, becaue they don't have a decent IDE to write code in?

I think most Ruby developers think IDE's get in their way. There are two
ways to program, with the IDE generating code, or the language infers functionality
from a smaller amount of code. I don't think IDE's would be so useful to
Ruby developers, until computers are fast enough to infer dynamic types from
context.

So there's no real need for JetBrains to waste effort supporting it then.

I think a Ruby/JRuby language plugin would be great. I think IDEA should
support as many languages as it can.
