2016.2 hangs on first configuration

Answered

I've installed IDEA Community Edition 2016.2 and fecided to start from fresh confituration, so before first run I've removed configuration from 2016.1.

When I start IDEA 2016.2 first time, it shows first dialog "maximized", but only upper-left corner is drawn:

After that, it shows properly-sized dialog with theme selection, and after that it hangs forever, but consume ~1 CPU core all time.

I could kill idea64.exe process and after that it starts in "Default" configuration. If I remove its configuration folder, process repeats.

My system is Windows 7/Ultimate/x64.

Does it work if you use idea.exe with the bundled JDK instead of idea64.exe that runs on whatever 64-bit JDK is installed on your system?

(1) idea.exe (32 bit) works as expected

(2) My system JDK/JRE is 1.8.0_102 (release, from Oracle's site)

P.S. BTW, 64-bit version renders fonts much better than 32 bits one, IMHO

According to the thread dump IDE is waiting for the user input in a dialog.

You can try 64-bit JetBrains Runtime instead: https://bintray.com/jetbrains/intellij-jdk/. Runtime can be changed per https://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/hc/articles/206544879.

Only combination which has problems idea64.exe with system/Oracle's 1.8.0_102 (64 bit)

Can't reproduce. Oracle JDK 1,8.0_102 (64-bit), ideaIC-2016.2.exe, default settings, clicking Next after theme selection brings the following dialog:

After finishing the wizard IDE starts as expected.

Sorry, we can't tell why it doesn't work for you since the snapshot you have provided doesn't show any problem (IDE is waiting for the user input in a dialog and doesn't hang).

(1) It works as expected on other system (W7/Enterprise/x64, Oracle's JDK 1.8.0_102), so I could not reproduce it on other system, and I'm not surprised, that it could not be reproduced at your side.

(2) It 100% reproducible on my first system — first screen has wrong size, and after clicking on "Next: Default plugins" it doesn't re-draw screen, goes to "Process not responding" from Window's point of view, and one thread works 100% of time forever. It doesn't draw itself (so, if window will be moved away from screen and back it will be filled with artifacts from window border drawing), it does nothing, you could close it, but could not interact with it.

Does it happen with the default Windows theme or only with your old style Windows 95 theme?
