Cant find desktop entry launcher on ubuntu
I selected to have clion make the shortcut but nothing appears within my applications tab. Is there an sh file i can edit or am i missing something here?

After installation launcher usually locates in /usr/share/applications/ or ~/.local/share/applications. Could you please check if there's a file 'jetbrains-clion.desktop'?
If it's absent can you please reinstall CLion from the scratch by removing/renaming ~/.CLion2016.2 folder and installing again?

This is specific to linux
When you can't find the .desktop file in the ~/.local/share/applications/ folder, it must not have created a desktop entry. You can create desktop entry by clicking the configure dropdown on the welcome screen. There is an option to create Desktop entry along with many other options.
