AI Assistant constantly disconnecting from license

Answered

I have a paid subscription to the AI Assistant. However, it is constantly disconnecting from my license. For example, after typing a query I get this error message:

Something went wrong. Check your AI Assistant license in the license dialog. Open dialog

When I click “Open dialog” nothing happens. The only way for me to reconnect to the AI Assistant is to restart PyCharm, which, to say the least, is not ideal.

Does anyone else have this problem and are there any fixes or workarounds?

Hi Reid, this looks similar to a known issue LLM-12085 which must be fixed in the upcoming release.

The only known workaround is indeed to restart the IDE.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

Todd Kemmerling, have you tried to restart the IDE? Does it help?

I have the same issue. Every morning when I  use Rider the AI assistant and ai commit messages stop working.

Ai assistant gives error "Something went wrong. Check your AI Assistant license in the license dialog. Open dialog:" but open dialogue does nothing.

Commit message generation just silently fails with no error message.
Restarting is the only way to resolved the issue.

Hi Ross. This was a known issue that’s since been fixed. Please make sure your IDE and plugins are up to date and let me know if you keep experiencing this issue afterwards.

Here's the ticket in YouTrack: LLM-12085 "AI Assistant stops working and needs to be activated again and again: Something went wrong."

I realize this is an old thread, however the same issues seems to be occuring. I am constantly getting disconnected from the AI license server, and only rebooting the UI resolves the issue. The problem generally comes when the system has been “idle” for a long period, during which time background computational processes for other applications utilize a very large amount of the CPU/GPU on the system. When I come back, the disconnect has typically happened. There is a “Try again” link but it seems to do nothing, and only rebooting resolves the issue. On restart of the Pycharm UI (nothing else is restarted), the error immediately resolves itself.

Hello AveryS,
Could you please update the IDE and plugin to the latest versions?
Is it the same issue as in this YT issue?
https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/LLM-12085/AI-Assistant-stops-working-and-needs-to-be-activated-again-and-again-Something-went-wrong.-Check-your-AI-Assistant-license-in
If not, please create a new issue using this link: youtrack.jetbrains.com/issues/LLM
Thank you!

I was on 2025.2.4 when this happened. However, the JetBrains Toolbox notified me when I went to shut down that it wanted to upgrade to 2025.2.5, which I did. This has not happened since, but I will continue to monitor and see if it replicates again.
