Jetbrains AI and Junie cannot be used for free
With the newest IDE versions (2025.1, not just PyCharm), the AI should be free to use (AFAIU), at least locally and for a few cloud completions.
I cannot use it. It always asks me to upgrade to pro. I've retried, uninstalled plugins… seems like a bug?
Even worse, I cannot even try the pro, as I've tried it before (when it was completely new).
Would love to a) use the free AI and b) try the actual pro (maybe reset the trials?)

I'm having the same issue. In IntelliJ (2025.1) the plugin just shows a warning for “No license” and I don't see the existence of “AI Free” at all.
Hello,
The issue is reported in https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/LLM-16474.
Even if the license is activated, it'll show a "no license" message in Settings | Plugins.
The license should be checked via AI Assistant tool window | three dots | Manage Licenses as described in the article How to check that JetBrains AI license is activated.
AI Trial has been reset on the 16th of April. Please check if you're faced with https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/LLM-16475.
Also, check the article 2025.1: How to troubleshoot AI Assistant activation issue.
If the issue still not resolved, please contact JetBrains support for further investigation.
I have the same problem. I contacted the support, send debug logs, but their didn't find any issues. I have no Free license and can't order a free license in the web account either.
