Local changes and file previews during commit are missing in 2025.1

Answered

I can't find the options to re-enable them.

Being able to see which files are changed at a glance, and then visually go through the changes during commit are essential steps in the workflow. I can't believe you'd remove such a useful feature of your tools.

Hi,

Please see: https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IJPL-177161/Modal-commit-moved-to-a-separate-plugin-in-2025.1-Discussion

Modal commit exists in 2025.1 as a plugin.

If you are having difficulties with enabling non-modal, please check

  1. If Modal plugin is enabled in Settings | Plugins, it should be automatically bundled under "Installed", the name is "Git Modal commit Interface"
  2. In Settings | Advanced Settings, have "Use modal commit interface" enabled
  3. Make sure staging is disabled in: Settings | Version Control | Git

Dino Letic But you admitted yourself that that plugin will no longer be receiving updates or support.

So if you're dropping support for one of your most useful features, I might as well stay with 2024.3.5 and use the perpetual fallback, right?

Please check if the Modal Commit Interface plugin is installed and enabled in Settings (⌘ + , or Ctrl + Alt + S) > Plugins.
If yes, there should be an option available for enabling the modal commit interface - Settings (⌘ + , or Ctrl + Alt + S) > Advanced Settings | Version Control | Use modal commit interface for Git and Mercurial.
