Project Tool Window Main Folder Collapses on App Switch, External Folder Unaffected

When I switch to another application (using Alt+Tab/Cmd+Tab) and return to IntelliJ IDEA, the main project folder in the Project tool window collapses or closes, but an external integration folder (e.g., a linked directory or module) remains open. This behavior started recently and did not occur previously, suggesting a possible change in IntelliJ, OS, or project settings. The issue persists across sessions and disrupts my workflow.

Hi,

Thank you for reporting this. 
Please try this basic troubleshooting and see if you're experiencing the issue again.
 

  • Go to Settings | Plugins | Gear Icon | Disable All Downloaded Plugins - If the issue is solved after performing this action, enable the plugins one by the one to spot which one is triggering the behavior.
  • Invalidate cache from File | Invalidate caches | Check all the boxes | Press Invalidate and Restart
  • If the below does not help, please attach your IDE log directory as a zip file to our upload server , following these instructions.
