Claude agent using september-2025 model

Claude agent bundled with Phpstorm (but I guess it's the same for all IDEs) still uses claude-sonnet-4-5-20250929

Is there a way to switch to opus, or at least a newer build?

Dear Francesco, 
To select Claude 3 Opus for Junie, you’ll need to adjust the model settings in your IDE. Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Open your IDE Settings by pressing (on macOS) or Ctrl Alt S (on Windows/Linux). 
  2. Navigate to Tools | Junie | Models.
  3. In the list of available models, look for Claude 3 Opus (usually under the Anthropic section) and select it.
  4. Click OK to save your changes.

Thank you for the reply, however that only applies to Junie, not to Claude Agent

Claude Agent is still better and faster for many tasks.

If you had to pick the top 2 things Claude Agent does that Junie currently struggles with, what would they be? We’re looking to make Junie just as (if not more) capable for your daily work.

In the newer versions of JetBrains AI Assistant, we implement the model selector menu for Claude Agent:

Could you please update your IDE and the JetBrains AI Assistant plugin to the latest versions and check whether you have this feature?

Vladislav Kuzmeniuk i don't see it, as you can see i have the latest versions for both PhpStorm and Ai Assitant

Could you try to reinstall the Claude Agent?

The installed agent is located at:

  • Windows: %USERPROFILE%\.claude\downloads
  • macOS: ~/.claude/downloads
  • Linux: ~/.claude/downloads

If the issue persists, please provide the Recent Debug logs (see How to collect IntelliJ IDE logs for AI Assistant troubleshooting) to help us with the troubleshooting. Upload logs privately to our server and share the generated upload ID.

i tried:
removed the .dmg from ~/.claude/downloads
restarted storm
triggered the re-install by trying to use the agent
same issue

then i tried:
uninstall the ai assistant plugins
restarted storm
re install assistant plugin
restarted storm
same issue

Thank you for providing details!

Recently, we implemented ACP for the Claude Agent. And it's changed how the Claude Agent binaries work with the IDE and JetBrains AI Assistant plugin. May I ask you to update your plugin one more time to see if it brings improvement 253.32098.59 → 253.32098.66 ?

after update, the default claude agent within the AI assistant disappeared. I had to install this plugin to have claude agent available again
 


but now it shows as a beta, and it didn't before (as you can see on the images I shared on https://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/32596840030482-Claude-agent-using-september-2025-model?page=1#community_comment_34167504488594):

Everything is correct; it's expected behavior because the binaries for the Claude Agent have been updated.

Could you verify whether you have an option to choose a model for the Claude Agent now?

I have the same 253.32098.66, didn't do anything special, just updated plugins when the IDE said there were updates, and I have the same as you have Vladislav Kuzmeniuk 
It says it's using 4.6, looks great so far. 

From a UX point of view, maybe it's not really clear for many users if the 1M is more powerful/expensive than the normal one

There is still a bug, I see there's an update available, but when I click on the link nothing happens. I have the same behavior on both a mac and a Windows pc.
