Terminal colored prompt font got messed up a few releases ago

A couple releases ago (some time in 2017), the update caused my terminal prompt fonts to have an extra space whenever a color is used (I'm using zsh). Previously, the prompt looked like this:

Now it looks like this:

This is the sorin prezto zsh prompt. In every git repository, it shows the branch status at the very end of the line. Consequently, the bug is causing every line to overflow to the next line which is really annoying. This problem is not showing in iTerm2, so it's an IntelliJ bug.

Can you please fix it or let me know how to fix it?
