Intellij Auto Short-Hand

Hi,

I am somewhat new with Intellij and really love it, but I cannot stand the auto short-hand that it does for me in some cases. (e.g. - I will be passing an argument into a method and it will automatically do type colon arg name; or it will do short hand for a definition) Any guidance as to what this is called, what it is and how to turn this off is greatly appreciated.
