Structure view insists on being Split Mode

If I uncheck Split Mode for the Structure view, and restart Intellij, it reopens once again in Split Mode. It used to work, but a couple of versions ago it started to force Split Mode for some reason. Is there any way to get Intellij to remember my Structure view Split Mode preferences? Thanks.
