Out of memory and unresponsive

Starting today (or maybe a few days ago, I don't use it everyday), PHPStorm has become unresponsive. I start the application, it's fine for a few moments, but then it becomes unresponsive. It happens a lot when I switch back from another window.

It seems to have something to do with Google Chrome, as it also becomes very slow. But Chrome eventually recovers. PHPStorm doesn't.

This last time, as I was using other applications, the message in the attached file popped up. But then I can't click on any button because it still is unresponsive.

I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

Hello,

How much RAM your workstation has? Looks like Java VM is struggling and it might be good to allow it to use a bit more RAM.

You can change the memory limit in Help > Diagnostic > Change memory settings. "1500" or "2000" should be enough for most of the projects, even large ones.

Hi Vladimir,

It's an 8GB RAM. I will use this opportunity to clear my HD and install Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and this may be enough to solve the problem.

But just note that it was working before, and my project is very small (under 50 files and 200Kb, plus the .git folder with 300Mb). So it could still be software-related, even if only for specific setups. Has there been a release this past week?

It definitely can be software-related, please let us know if it still runs bad on the newly installed system. There was no release past week, only the EAP one.

I still have this issue and it does not go away no matter to which number I set it.

I have experienced this on windows 10 pro using a 24GB computer and a MBP 15" with 16GB of RAM
