macos multiple editor windows, writes to wrong window

I am using multiple monitors but intellij doesn't seem to handle it correctly.  I have two editor windows and even though I try to click in one editor so I can get my cursor there to write, it will write to the other editor window on my other monitor. anyone having this issue? Generally I find multi window support to be buggy, at least on macos
