When navigating using command+click to a method or object declaration, is there a way to have the action result in a new popup? I want the current editor to stay in focus. I know there are ways to go back, but I want to see both at the same time.

Have you tried "View | Quick Definition"?
Yes, that is close, but it doesn't have all the features of the editor window.
