security of remote interpreter

Answered

Hi,

There is a way to setup remote debugging using method in this article: https://www.jetbrains.com/help/pycharm/remote-debugging-with-product.html

I notice when setting it up, pycharm probably also installed something on the server, which makes me not sure if all communication between local and the remote server is encrypted through ssh, such as uploading files, downloading symbols etc? Could you clarify?

Thanks,

Frank

Hi Frank,

What do you mean by "pycharm probably also installed something on the server"? As far as I know PyCharm doesn't install anything. It just uploads your files and Pycharm helpers to remote host.

I believe if your SSH connection is secure (e.g. ssh from the system terminal), then it the same with PyCharm.

Thanks for your reply.

Oh, what I noticed of the "installation" was probably the helpers you mentioned.

As long as all communication stay in the ssh tunnel, I think I am fine with it.

So does the pycharm helper make any communication?

No, they are just copied to the remote host just like your project files and they do not do anything on their own. It's just needed for running and debugging your code.
