PyCharm duplicating all files in directory

PyCharm is duplicating all files in my folder every time I start. I have tried nuking .idea, whole folder (and re-cloning from GitHub) but it keeps happening

Does it happen to all files, or only to files in some specific folder?
Does it happen in any project?
IDE should not be doing this, maybe there are some third-party plugins or file-watchers doing this,
This is now happening for me in CLion 2019.2.5 too... no idea how to start to debug this?
The only way I have been getting around it is to nuke the folder and re-clone
ah, I think it was something to do with iCloud Drive. my bad and probably OK to close this now
