PyCharm only work every second time I open it

So, this is a very strange problem that I have since pycharm-community 2019.3 version.

  1. I open PyCharm and see my last project and everything works.
  2. I close PyCharm
  3. I reopen PyCharm and have 2 PyCharm windows, one [a] with a strangly behaving project (cannot switch file, project sidebar collapsed and not working if I manage to open it) and one [b] blank window with just the menu bar
  4. If I now close PyCharm via window a and reopen it I'm back to point 3. But if I close it via window b and reopen it, I'm in working state (1)

Anyone any clue on what is going on?

System:

Kubuntu 18.04 x64
openjdk 11.0.5

Hello, 

 

 Please vote for the existing issue https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-172036   and try to install the PyCharm EAP version https://www.jetbrains.com/pycharm/nextversion/  and monitor the behavior.

The problems seems to be gone with EAP version, sadly I cannot use most of my plugins with it. But thanks so far :)
