Switcher does not jump between split windows anymore?

I currently have the latest 2019.3.2 (21 Jan 2020 build) although I've noticed this behaviour some time ago. It used to be that Intellij would automatically go to the next splitter if I triggered the switcher whilst on another window and the previous file is active on the other window. Now if I execute the switcher, it switches to the previous file on the current splitter, resulting in this weird case where the same file is open in both. Is this the expected behaviour now? Is there a way to make it work like it used to?
