Next occurrence absent when in editor

Answered

Next occurrence / previous occurrence actions are no longer available when in the editor, this change seems to have occurred between 2019.3.4 and 2020.1.

Previous workflow:

1) In editor: find usage of some method

2) Focus moves to find tool

3) Navigate through occurrences using 'next occurrence' / 'previous occurrence'

4) Focus would shift to editor, but it's still possible to continue navigating the the next occurrence.

New 'workflow'

1) In editor: find usage of some method

2) Focus moves to find tool

3) Navigate through occurrences using 'next occurrence' / 'previous occurrence'

4) Focus would shift to editor, but it's no longer possible to continue navigating the the next occurrence without changing the focus back to the find window.

This breaks a fundamental workflow for me, I routinely either navigate rapidly through many occurrences by repeatedly typing the 'next occurrence' shortcut, or edit every occurrence by repeatedly using 'next occurrence' then editing, 'next occurrence' more edits, etc. I've 'downgraded' (also painful btw) back to 2019.3.4 and won't be able to upgrade until this is fixed.

Hi,

I can't recreate the problem. What shortcuts do you have assigned to 'next occurrence' / 'previous occurrence'? Are there any other actions assigned to these shortcuts?

I think shortcuts aren't part of the core bug, the actions are absent from the menu too (Navigate > Previous Occurrence and Next Occurrence).

Are these actions presented in "Find action" popup?

When the find tool has focus: yes, when the editor has focus: no.

Please, file a new issue and attach complete logs archive from "Help | Compress Logs and Show in...": https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/newIssue

My 2020 version of IntelliJ is broken (maybe when I reverted back to the previous version something was corrupted), I cannot recreate the issue with it, so the logs won't be useful. I will however file a new issue.
