IDE welcome window disappears from window manager (KDE) window selection list

Answered

The issue occurs in all tested IDEA based IDEs (IDEA, PyCharm, CLion). If no projects are opened and so welcome window is showed, this window is often invisible in WM window list and so not selected with window switcher (which is assigned by default to Alt+Tab). Switching to another virtual desktop and back usually cures this (the window appears in selection list). During the issue, the window is still visible and accessible with mouse (but so may require minimizing other windows to make it visible).

Reproduced on Kubuntu, both 18.04 and 20.04, on two different systems for each. Important specifics is KDE plus multiple virtual desktops. I also reassign window and desktop switching shortcuts (doubt this is important here).

Please check. Is it fixable locally (without changing WM/DE and abandoning virtual desktops)?

Does it help if you set up _JAVA_AWT_WM_NONREPARENTING=1 environment variable for your machine?

If no, please create bug request on YouTrack attaching the screenshot of the error, focus info, and idea.log file.

@Valentin Nechayev did you create a big report for this issue? Experiencing the same thing right now and am really annoyed by it at this point.

@... I've commented on IDEA-269249 but also opened a new bug IDEA-276451, as I'm not sure if the two issues are related at all. Could you check out the screencast I've attached in the above two issues?
