[Pychram] Automatical Desktop Entry Saving
PyCharm 2026.2.3 (Fedora Linux 44 (Workstation Edition)
我的Pycharm保存目录/opt/pycharm-2026.2.3/,当我launch /opt/pycharm-2026.2.3/bin/pycharm后,我发现启动程序会自动添加Desktop Entry。RubyMine也有这个问题(?)。Is there any choice for config this setting?
user@hostname:~/<folder>$ ls ~/.local/share/applications/
jetbrains-pycharm-0a38c190-1cd5-4161-87b3-dfb2e8e79c91.desktop mimeapps.list
jetbrains-rubymine-8e165ad3-f1fa-4c4b-9c73-7b9b9629abe0.desktop mimeinfo.cache

Hello sicheng,
According to my tests with Toolbox App 3.9 on Ubuntu 24.04, the Toolbox App is the one that creates these desktop entries. When you start an IDE that Toolbox did not install, Toolbox adds it to its list and creates a desktop entry for it. Toolbox has no setting to turn this off. The related issue: https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/TBX-16499.
To make Toolbox ignore an IDE installation, try this:
1) Quit the Toolbox App.
2) Run
sudo touch /opt/pycharm-2026.2.3/.toolbox-ignore3) Run
grep -l /opt/pycharm-2026.2.3 ~/.local/share/JetBrains/Toolbox/channels/*and delete the file it prints.4) Delete
~/.local/share/applications/jetbrains-pycharm-0a38c190-1cd5-4161-87b3-dfb2e8e79c91.desktop5) Repeat steps 2 to 4 for the RubyMine installation directory.
6) Start the Toolbox App and PyCharm again.
Let me know if this helps.
Thanks. I does not have desktop entry in gnome desktop now. But I find it still will generate “jetbrainsd.desktop” in
~/.local/share/applications/.jetbrainsd.desktopis expected. IDEs create it to register the IDE as the handler forjetbrains://links, such as "Open in IDE" links in a browser. The entry should haveNoDisplay=trueby default, so it does not appear in the GNOME application menu. Please keep this file. If you delete it, the IDE creates it again on the next start, andjetbrains://links do not open the IDE until then. Thanks very much
