Shared IDE settings directory for multiple IDEs

I have just upgraded to All Products, to have more focused IDEs for different purposes. While they differ in options based on purpose, there are some common settings such as Editor font size to name one. 

I first used the same config and system directory, set through Toolbox, but then realized that they may be overwriting each other, and that Ryder had a bunch of Java plugins installed. So then thought I'd need to separate it.

Is it appropriate to just share the settings directory among them, so as to be able to change some appearance preferences that will be used across IDEs? Or is it best to have them all separated?
