Update remote IDE when using SSH remote development

Answered

Some weeks ago I've set up remote development over SSH.

Since then, my local installation of IDEA has received updates from Toolbox, but when I'm connected to the remote it reports the same version as when I originally set it up. System Settings -> Updates reports "IDE Updates are managed externally by (unknown)" and "IDE Updates are managed externally by Projector" On Host. How do I update the remote?

In-place upgrade for backends is not implemented yet. Currently, you can install a separate instance of IDE new version by selecting it in the available IDEs drop-down menu. It installs this version nearby the previous one,

I agree this would be useful. Do you have to reconnect to a new project to get that "available IDEs" dropdown menu in Gateway?

You have to open the "New connection" settings/wizard but can select one of the already saved and edit it. Please subscribe and vote for https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/GTW-1005/remote-IDE-update-version
