IntelliJ hangs on high spec system

I have recently been having these problems, and they are very annoying. I have a Ryzen 5 3600 and 16GB of ram. I can be just simply copying and pasting code around and it can give up and hang for a long time. It likes to hang especially when I try to cut code. I don't want to force close it because I will lose my work. I've tried deleting a lot of my user data and things like that. Does anyone have an idea of how to fix this?

See if it helps to disable all downloaded plugins and restart the IDE. File | Settings | Plugins | ⚙️ | Disable all downloaded plugins

Also make sure that:
  • IDE default directories, installation folder and project files are all excluded from the antivirus/firewall scan
  • The IDE is installed on a fast local drive and project files are not located on network drives
