Currently the best way to handle this is indeed copy and paste. Do not use the merge buttons at all in this case, to prevent losing the highlighting.Also vote for http://jetbrains.net/tracker/issue...

It looks like one or more of your plugins were compiled using jdk 1.6 and you are running IntelliJ IDEA on jdk 1.5. Which is strange because you are on Snow Leopard and are not supposed to have jdk...

Well, the bug report quite clearly states the bug is fixed in Mustang. So the solution seems to be: try jdk 6Bas
