I'm looking for this feature too.But is it possible to have a auto popup just like normal autocompletion that we can choose from?Saves more characters if we have long simliar names.

Yes I can. I used Sourcetree to overcome it. Just committed 800+ files fine. But hadn't had the chance to try 4k files again yet.
