1) Since I'm not using a built-in "diff" application but Beyond Compare (see below) - there are no arrows for me .. So when external application is configured in "Settings | General | Diff Options"...

Forgot to say: yes, I also know that when some variable is selected or caret stands on it - pressing AltF8 opens "Evaluate Expression" window with variable's name already in "Expression". But still...
