Thank you Peter, you are awesome. I tried (amongst other things): project.getMessageBus().connect(project).subscribe(StatusBar.Info.TOPIC, new StatusBarInfo() { ... } But I only received null text ...

Thanks for that Alexey. I had connected to the app message bus with the same topic... it works for projects. I don't suppose there is a way to get the file that it's just finished on?

The answer is probably in https://plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin/4455 - it must handle this. KeyPromoter.java looks promising.Seems to add AWTEventListener...
