Community edition 2017.1.2 random crashes on start up

On 64 Bit Linux Mint 17.1 I cannot get PyCharm to run, crashes on start up randomly. After about 4 retries the IDE finally came up fully, but was crashing after the splash screen previously.
Has anyone seen something similar, and if so were you able to resolve the problem?
I'm running the default OpenJDK RE that installs with PyCharm, and it is a fresh installation just downloaded.

Thanks Anna, sent the idea.log as well as threadDump file (had some crashes in the IDE editor later yesterday, same kind of pattern, after a couple of restarts of PyCharm the editor stopped crashing. The day before (once I got PyCharm started) I was able to run PyCharm for about 10 hours with no crashes, although during that time I wasn't doing heavy editing, it was mostly sitting in the background.
