Pycharm CE: don't follow symlinks in indexing

Hello,
Is it possible to stop following symlinks while pycharm is indexing? I usually work with symlink to large data partitions where my large collection of data files are, but they don't need to be indexed. Indexing can take ages, and the IDE is completely unresponsive while that happens. I don't even have the time to right-click on the symlink and select "mark directory as excluded".

Hi David! I believe UI should not be freezes during the indexing no matter how long does it take. Could you please send your idea.log from Help | Show Log in ... to our support at pycharm-support@jetbrains.com

I agree the the UI should not freeze during indexing. Actually, it is my interpretation that indexing is going on.
The freeze happens after I mount a network disc on my mac, if there are symlinks in the project folder pointing inside that mounted disc. If the disc is not mounted, everything is fine, since the symlink is dangling. But as soon as I mount the disc, the interface (all open Pycharm CE windows, actually), freeze for a few minutes.
Only when I "mark directory excluded", after the freeze, subsequent mounting will not cause the freeze.
